Yesterday I did two things I don't do very often, but really enjoy. In the afternoon, with some anthropology department chums, I saw the opera La Boheme done by the Wichita Grand Opera. It was terrific. I got chills during one of the arias in the first act. Even if one is not the biggest fan there is something to be said for live performances and the ability of the audience to connect with real people on stage. I would highly recommend everyone experience an opera at least one in his or her life. (As a comical side note, I think the last time I "highly recommended" an experience it was a drag show.)
For supper a few of us went out for sushi. Actually, just Brent and I ate sushi/sashimi/maki and Angie had sesame chicken. Mmmmm ... such good texture and flavor, except for the octopus, which had a rubbery texture. We got this huge platter and there were about ten pieces left over. I am not sure how long raw fish can safely stay fresh in my refrigerator, but the server said he thought it would be fine if I ate it in the next couple of days. Guess what I'm having for lunch.

Where do you like to go for sushi?
Japan Express has a good California Roll, and we've had sushi (both raw and cooked varieties) at Oriental Cafe on S Rock, Wong's on 21st, and Bamboo Stix on Tyler(?). I don't think I've disliked any.
Aren't you allergic to fish? I mean, I guess you're not because you'd know and not eat it. What is happening to my memory?
I think it might be shellfish, Emily, so I don't think you need to start worrying about your memory yet -- you're at least getting good portions of stories right!
--hoping this is the same Emily I know...
Yeah, I am just allergic to shellfish, but is problematic almost every time I try to eat sushi at a place where the servers don't understand English well. When I was in SoDak last fall I ate sushi with my mom and I told the server I could not have any shellfish on my plate. Guess what was on my plate when it came out. A huge lobster head that was touching the other food. I apologized and said I couldn't eat it because of an allergy and I made hand motions and everything. Then I saw her take the plate back, remove the lobster, and return with the same plate. I can't quite remember what happened after that but I think I just gave up and ordered someting else.
