Struck down again
I think I got food poisoning again! Two times in the last four months is a bad track record. Sunday night I ate at a United Nations banquet at a local restaurant. About three hours later I was in a lot of pain. It surely felt like food poisoning to me, but maybe I have some sort of stomach flu/bug. At the end of last week I had a piece of cheesecake one day and a bowl of Freddy's Frozen custard another day. After both cases of rich heavy food I got a mild upset stomach. On Sunday I did not have anything at the banquet that was that rich so I'm not finding much consistency. This is all very strange and I am starting to fear I have some sort of new food allergy or a type of lactose intolerance that does not include nonfat yogurt and skim milk. I should probably see a gastro-intestinal specialist about this, but alas I have student health insurance. I might have to figure this one out on my own.

No Apples
My apple orchard project did not pan out. Apparently we had a frost last spring that killed all the buds on the apple trees. No apples. Maybe next year. This whole apple things has me interested in the apple trees in my yard. They need to be seriously pruned. I have looked up some pruning tips online. I thought it was something I could do this fall, but I guess the trees need to be dormant for at least a few weeks before you start. That means it will be well into winter before we can get out the saw.

Mahjong
During a moment of boredom or procrastination a few weeks ago I was checking out the games Bill Gates put on my new laptop. I discovered Mahjong. It took a trial game or two before I understood what was going on and now I love it. I might love it too much, actually. Yesterday I postponed going to my neighbor's pig roast barn party for 30 minutes so I could get in a little Mahjong action. Yep, this needs to stop.
Apples and Squash
When I was home in SoDak a couple weekends ago I went to an apple orchard and stocked up on some apples and squash. Now my supply is getting low so I want to find an orchard close to where I live. I did some checking online and found two, each about 10 miles away. I think I will see if I can find them this afternoon - sounds like a good Sunday afternoon task to me. I also have to finish writing a paper which is not as fun. It's all about balance.
