More Christmas Decorations

At the ICM Christmas Party Javers and I decorated some ginormous stockings to hang by our tree. They are absolutely beautiful. In the process of transporting them home we managed to get puff paint on my coat and Jeremy's truck seat. Nice.

Goulash

Does anyone need goulash? It's tasty. Jeremy made four quartz of it on Saturday. We ate some, gave some away, but there is still a couple of full containers in the fridge. Let me know if you want it and maybe I'll send some your way. It would be like getting fruitcake for Christmas, except it would be goulash.

Theory

When I was working in the library at Bethel I came across a cartooned murder mystery titled Postmorem for the Postmodernist by Arthur Asa Berger. I hardly knew anything about postmodernism at the time, but felt like I should learn about it to better understand contemporary theory. I would suggest the book to anyone. It was a very quick, fun and light read and it really aided my understanding of the tenets of postmodernism, as Arthur Asa Berger sees them.

Today, I was perusing Berger's web page from the San Francisco State University and I came across some more of his works. In one essay he analyzes a joke from eight different perspectives. It is a good reminder that interpretations are immensely variable. I thought it was pretty interesting and if you are interested too click the link I give you and open 8 Scholars Analyze the Gays in a Bar Joke.

Christmas Programming: The Benefits of Cable

For the most part, I view our cable TV package as excessive and unecessary. Most of the shows I watch are on those standard channels - ABC, NBC, etc. - although I admit I do periodically enjoy a movie from the movie channels, and HBO series, a Rachel Ray show, or something off the Discovery Channel.

Christmas programming, however, has changed my views. I love those holiday shows of my childhood like Frosty the Snowman and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Most of these shows and more show up on cable channels. I have been dilligently searching the listing guide for shows associated with "Christmas" or "holidays" and am recording a bunch of them. Last night I watched Rudolph's Shiny New Year. I didn't even know there was another Rudolph show besides the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Tonight I am planning to watch a movie based on a story by Truman Capote about an old lady, her young nephew (or maybe cousin?) and fruitcakes.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find one of my favorites A Claymation Christmas Celebration . I will have to keep searching becuase that's a good one.

Photos of the Christmas Tree

Even though we have a few Christmas decorations up I don't have it in my heart to throw away my pumpkin. I suppose I could eat it.
