I did start my part time Children's Attendant Care (CAC) job last week. It made the week busy so it flew by. So far, the job has consisted of classroom training and a few hours of shadowing. It has been interesting learning how to respond to these kids and keep them motivated to accomplish their mental health goals. Laura, the trainer has a phrase that she drilled into our minds: "seek first to understand, then be understood." It sounds like a good way to go about the job and I hope that idea of seeking to understand others before trying to make them understand me spills over into the rest of my life.
School is fine. For the first few weeks I was actually kind of bored. Now, with the job and more school work piling up I am definitely not bored anymore. No stress at this point either, so I may have found a good balance.
I am getting to know some people from the anthro. dept. better through. I wouldn't call them friends yet, but they are certainly very friendly. Those curious anthropologists - full of questions and intrigued by everyone. I think I will go to Texas with one of my professors and some other students for some excavation during spring break. This should help me get to know other students in the department, too.
Okay, it's 10:30 already and I need to get to work!
